Cementing its reputation as a city that never sleeps!  Rio has a great clubbing culture.  In addition to favourite venues, there are many pop up club nights, so its important to watch the local press and websites.

Casa da Matriz

One of the original alternative clubs in the city, with club nights ranging from MPB (Brazillian Pop), to Rock and Indie.  Clubber have a choice of two bars, a large dancefloor and amusement arcade.  Casa da Matriz is a great relfection of the cultural soul of Rio de Janeiro.  There are frequent fashion shows, theatrical performances and live music.

Bar Bukowski

Named after the American/German erotic writer, Charles Bukowski, this is one of the key places in the city for alternative rock.  Located in an old house, with a large garden.  Plenty of character.

Cabaret Lounge

Originally home to the famous B52 Diner, the decor still features propellers and parts of planes.  There is plenty of loud music, but also relaxing areas with decor of red curtains and beanbags.  The drinks menu is large and varied, with plenty of beers, cocktails and champagne.  There is a limited food menu, with a large selection of Bruschetas.
